Why Health Should Be Your #1 Priority as an Entrepreneur

The road of entrepreneurship can be extremely taxing. With frequent reports of 80-hour work weeks, sleepless nights, and high levels of stress, one can only wonder how to survive in this game without sacrificing one’shealth. Ironically, many newcomers make the vital mistake of ignoring their health while building their business from scratch. Stories of surviving on nothing but ramen noodles and junk food are all too common.

 

Disregarding your health can severely impact your future. You will have to pay an exorbitant amount of money to fix problems that could have easily been prevented. Even if you manage to break through and achieve monetary success, you won’t have the energy or the willpower to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

 

To be effective as an entrepreneur for many long years, you have to learn how to manage your energy. All of the time management in the world is useless if you don’t have the energy to follow through on the strategies that will make you successful. There’s no way to get around it. Take a good look at the hundreds of entrepreneurs who have traded their health for success and deeply regret it. Your top priority should be to invest in your health and avoid problems down the road.

 

It really comes down to the trifecta of sleep, diet and exercise. It’s cliché advice that you’ve probably heard hundreds of times, but it’s cliché because it works.

 

Aim for 7-8 hours of deep, uninterrupted sleep per day. Keep the electronics out of your room, turn off all of the lights and forget about your work. You’ll have tomorrow to deal with it and there is no point in robbing yourself of rest due to high stress levels.


You don’t need to ban all junk food from your life, but you should be eating healthy at least 80% of the time. Fruits, vegetables, water, and lean meats should be a regular part of your meals every day.

 

It’s easy to follow an exercise routine if you are doing something that you truly enjoy. Biking, weightlifting, CrossFit, dancing – whatever gets you moving on a regular basis will help keep you active.


When you make sleep, a good diet and exercise a part of your life, you will find that you have more energy that you can redirect towards your top priorities.

 

You only have one body. It’s up to you to take care of it.
