Where Can I Get Stats on What’s Happening in My Real Estate Area?

Where Can I Get Stats on What’s Happening in My Real Estate Area?

When you want to get information on what is happening in your real estate area, it is usually as easy as asking the real estate agents and individuals who live in that area. But if you have learned anything in your real estate education, it’s that you need to look deeper in order to get an edge over your competition. It is great to look at the real estate market with your own eyes and see what is happening, but that only gives you a glimpse into your market. In order to have a truly effective real estate investment strategy, you need the cold-hard data as well. The numbers don’t lie and will expose any misguided beliefs that you may have previously held.

How can you get your hands on this kind of information? Fortunately, there are a few resources that you can use in order to get the numbers that you are looking for.

City-Data: This website aggregates data from numerous sources and puts it into an organized data sheet that can be easily read within a few seconds. With data from every single city and town in the United States of America, it allows users to get information that they may otherwise spend hours trying to gather. Whether you are looking for trends in housing prices, statistics regarding employment, or the quality of education that is available within an area, everything that you could possibly think of is included for your real estate area of interest.

NeighborhoodScout: You will see fewer data points compared to City-Data, as the only four categories available for each city include a basic area overview, public school ratings, appreciation rates, and crime rates. With that being said, each category comes with custom-written analyses that are constantly updated to reflect real-time changes in the real estate area of your choice. This resource is great for people who are looking to make decisions that are more heavily weighted on their own personal values than on numbers and statistics. Additionally, each real estate area comes with the option to find an agent that serves the specified area.

Sperling’s Best Places: This website is similar to City-Data with respect to the fact that it is heavily data-driven. You can probably find most of the data that you would be able to locate in City-Data with the exception of population-based factors that include religion, voting preferences, level of education and more.
